Benefits

  •   Maintains healthy gut by combining prebiotics to establish beneficial gut flora and nutrients to help gut repair

  •   Supports liver detoxification by enhancing phase I and II liver detoxification pathways

  •   Maintains acid base balance, therefore helps to alkalise the body

  •   Antioxidant

  •   Supports binding and excretion of heavy metals

Spirulina

Spirulina is a blue-green algae with a high nutritional content and excellent digestability therefore does not need chemical or physical processing. C-phycocyanin, the most abundant pigment found in blue-green algae has excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

L-Glutamine

Glutamine is essential for the function of a large number of tissues and cells in the body. These tissues and cells, which utilise glutamine at high rates, include kidney, intestine, liver, specific neurons in the central nervous system, cells in the immune system and pancreatic cells. Glutamine is the most important nutrient for intestinal tissue. Glutamine’s other functions include its role as a precursor for glutathione production and for neurotransmitter synthesis, and its role in acid-base (pH) balance.

Galium aparine (Cleavers)

Cleavers has been traditionally used in Western herbal medicine for its diuretic and detoxification properties by enhancing the elimination of wastes from the body.

Curcuma longa (Turmeric)

Turmeric root extract is used traditionally in Western herbal medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial and liver enhancing effects.

Coriandrum sativum (Coriander)

Coriander leaf is used to improve digestion to clear flatulence, griping and bloating. The leaf is also used to help facilitate the safe excretion of heavy metals and toxins, including lead, arsenic and mercury.

Deglycyrrhized Licorice

Traditional indications for licorice in Western herbal medicine include gastritis and peptic ulceration, as well as for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is traditionally used for its immune enhancing, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and soothing effect on mucus membranes.

Larch Arabinogalactans

Gum arabinogalactans are highly branched polysaccharides and an excellent source of dietary fibre. Arabinogalactans help support healthy digestive bowel flora.

Pectin

Pectin is a complex plant polysaccharide regarded as a soluble fibre. Typical sources include citrus peels and apples.

Kelp

Kelp is traditionally used for digestive disorders, heartburn, “blood cleansing”, to increase energy and for constipation.

Detoxification of Heavy Metals

The combination of spirulina and zinc assists in the removal of heavy metals in the body. a study of 41 patients with chronic arsenic poisoning administered Spirulina (500mg) and zinc (4mg) daily for 16 weeks found a sharp increase in urinary excretion of arsenic at 4 weeks and the effect was continues for another 2 weeks. In animal models, Spirulina has demonstrated anti-carcinogenic and antiviral effects, and has been found to reduce the toxicity of lead.

Zinc is important for increased expression of metallothioneins, which are capable of binding heavy metals and excreting them from the body. Metallothioneins are cysteine-rich metal-binding proteins and antioxidant compounds. They have the capacity to bind heavy metals such as cadmium, arsenic and mercury, as well as physiological metals such as zinc and copper.

Curcumin is well known for its antioxidant properties and has been found to protect against lead and cadmium toxicity, reducing damage to neurons.

Pectin when taken orally has been shown to decrease lead absorption and to reduce strontium bone and blood levels. The ability of pectin to reduce absorption and bioaccumulation of toxic metals is attributed to pectin binding the metals in the digestive tract and preventing their absorption, thus eliminating heavy metals in the stool. This also helps to eliminate heavy metals that have been excreted into the bile and prevents their reabsorption.

Coriander has traditionally been used to enhance the excretion of toxins and metals. Results of animal studies on lead, suggest that coriander achieves this by chelating lead in the gut and reducing absorption and also by chelating lead systematically, with enhanced lead excretion in the kidneys.

Alkalising Body Tissues

Alkalisation of the urine can enhance toxin excretion, and small quantities of toxins may be removed, over a period of time, with just subtle increases in urine pH (in the alkaline direction).

Potassium citrate is effective in alkalisation.
